Arapiles

Arapiles is located at a distance of 8 km of Salamanca.

This town is the battlefield of Los Arapiles, a place where the July 22, 1812 the battle of the same name, also known as the Battle of Salamanca, which is undoubtedly one of the most important in the War of Spanish Independence (1808-1814).

Once in the area you can access the Arapiles, two small hills but dominant height around the environment and were key to the development of the confrontation. Since the height of the Arapiles Grande, where a monument commemorating the event and was rremozado in 2002 by initiative of the Hon. Diputación de Salamanca, maintaining at all times and respecting their original characteristics sober environment, you can recognize all the characteristic points of the battlefield and among those distant days of 1812 that moved and fought the allied army on the one hand, composed of British, Portuguese and Spanish and the imperial army on the other.

To complete the visit in the town there is a Hall of Arapiles Interpretation arms about the fact where the visitor can create a video explaining the clash, models on the development, a series of panels in which detail the various phases of the fight, several dioramas about the formations used by the contestants and a series of objects relating to the time, some superb reproductions and others, the most emotive value, collected on the battlefield or their vicinity assigned to this classroom and by individuals.

You can complete the approaching visit to the shrine of Our Lady of the Rock, located in the vicinity of the village of Upper Calvarrasa and where you can enjoy an unmatched panoramic view on the battlefield.
